BOTCHA SATYANARAYANA hails from Vizianagaram, a backward North Costal District of Andhra Pradesh. Coming from a Backward Class community of Kapu, he has been a staunch worker for the Congress party from the beginning. With a respectable family background, he has started association with public life from his college days. A graduate of Arts, he was elected as President in the College Union Elections. Since then he widened social service activities like blood donation campaigns.
Commencing his political career as President, Dist. Youth Congress, Vizianagaram, he was elected twice as Chairman of Dist. Cooperative Central Bank between the years 1992-95 and again from 1995-99.

He was General Secretary, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee.

In the Parliament elections held in September, 1999, he was elected as a Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from the Bobbili Parliamentary Constituency.
He was member on a number of Parliamentary committees.

He is a Member of All India Congress Committee from 1995.

During the State Assembly elections held in the year 2004, he was elected as a Member of Legislative Assembly from Cheepurupalli Assembly Constituency of Vizianagaram District.

During his tenure as Minister in the State Cabinet from 2004-09, he held the portfolios of Major Industries, Commerce & Export Promotion; Marketing & Housing.
As Minister for Major Industries he was responsible for announcing the New Industrial Policy-2005 and had convened interactive meetings with CII, FCICCI & FAPCI.

As Minister for Marketing, he initiated major reforms in the structure of Agricultural Market Committees by making Legislation to involve private participation in development of infrastructure facilities of Agricultural Market Committees. As Minister for Housing, he gave a major fillip to Rural Housing programme known as ?INDIRAMMA HOUSING?. He was also responsible for initiating major housing programme for middle income families, popularly known as ?Rajiv Swagruha? apart from speeding up the urban low income housing programme viz ?Rajiv Gruhakalpa?.

In the year 2005 he played an active role in coordinating State participation in the ?Dandi March? led by Smt. Sonia Gandhiji, Hon?ble Chairperson of UPA.
In the year 2006, for the INC Plenary Session held in Hyderabad, in addition to being the Chairman of the Accommodation Committee, he was also closely associated with the Reception, Transportation and other committees.

During the elections to the State Assembly held in May, 2009, he was again elected as a Member of Legislative Assembly from Cheepurupally Assembly Constituency, Vizianagaram District.
He was a Minister in the State Cabinet holding the portfolio of Panchayat Raj upto November, 2010 and from 1st December, 2010 he is holding the Transport Minister Portfolio.

As a result of wide exposure gained from holding different portfolios and active participation in party matters, he has developed a close and personal rapport with a large number of Members of Parliament, MLAs, MLCs and other party leaders and workers up to grass root levels. Due to this, he has developed a deep insight in to the practical problems and corresponding solutions required for further strengthening of the party.

As a complement to the growth of Botcha Satyanarayana in public life, his wife Smt. Botcha Jhansi Lakshmi is also been associated politically with equal success and acceptability among the people of the District of Vizianagaram. She was elected as Chairperson, Zilla Parishad twice consecutively during 2001 and 2006. She contested and won the election as Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) during December, 2006 in the vacancy due to the demise of the then sitting member. After her first tenure during 2006-09, she was again re-elected as Member of Parliament (LS) in the General Election of May, 2009. Presently she is a Member on number of Parliamentary Committees.

Other members of the family of Sri Botcha Satyanarayana are also active in public life. His bother Sri Botcha Appalanarasaiah is an elected member to the State Legislative Assembly from the Gajapathinagaram Assembly Constituency Vizianagaram Dist. Another family member Sri Badukonda Appalanaidu is also a Member of State Legislative Assembly having been elected from Nellimarla Assembly Constituency Vizianagaram Dist.

During the last six years Sri Botcha Satyanarayana was also entrusted with additional responsibilities as Minister in-charge for the Districts of West Godavari, Ananthapur, East Godavari and now Guntur. By his friendly nature and warm interaction with colleagues and party workers, he has evolved as a strong and widely accepted leader of not only from B.C. community in particular, but also among legislators in General.
